Game Designer Interview

Anonymous Employee in Singapore

Application

I applied through an employee referral   The process took 2+ months.   I interviewed at Ubisoft (Singapore) in Sep 2017

Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The entire process took 11 weeks before I got an offer as the company was going through some internal decisions, which the Talent Acquisition staff did explain and were prompt in their replies when I reached out to them. I interviewed at Ubisoft Singapore in October 2017. I did a phone interview, followed by a game design test. Upon submitting the test, I was called down for an on-site interview a few weeks later. Both interviews posed questions that assessed technical skills and candidate behaviour. About 3 weeks from my last interview, HR staff got back with an offer. Negotiating was simple and my requests were deemed reasonable. When they got back to me on the final offer, I was pleasantly surprised to receive more than what I expected. Despite the long process, the interviews were relaxed, informative and enjoyable and the people involved – HR and the interviewers – were very nice and friendly.

Interview Questions

  • Questions posed were direct and nothing unusual for a design interview.

Game Designer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Milan

Application

I applied online.   The process took 2 weeks.   I interviewed at Ubisoft (Milan) in Jul 2017

Interview

I was called almost one week after I sent my Cv. HR invited me to take part to a game design selection test followed by an interview the following week. The selection test was held in the studios and lasted three hours. The candidates had to create a concept, five mechanics and three levels. The test had to be written in english. After lunch I was interviewed by the lead designer. I was asked about what I had done in the selection test, the last games I had played, my previous working experiences, my favourite game, what I would have expected to do during my standard working day, why I had chosen Ubisoft. The interview lasted almost half of an hour and started in english (and then went on in italian). After the interview they told me I will have been contacted in two weeks regardless of the result. Actually they sent me an e-mail with a negative response after five weeks. If I passed the selection I would have been invited for a second interview with the creative director (or the producer or the studio manager).

  • Tell me about the last games you played

Anonymous Employee in Craiova, Dolj, Dolj

Application

I applied online.   The process took 4 weeks.   I interviewed at Ubisoft (Craiova, Dolj, Dolj) in Aug 2015

Interview

Although they could've been clearer with the process from the get-go, the interview was quite simple and light, nothing too stressful or complicated. The HR person was helpful in providing me all the information about the position and what was expected of me, and the second interview (post-test) was quite light-hearted, as they went through my test, asking me about my decisions and just some minor things to clarify.

Game Designer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

Application

I applied through other source.   I interviewed at Ubisoft in Jun 2015

Interview

I contacted on LinkedIn the manager of Ubisoft Osaka after he announced the studio was looking for Game Designers. After sending him my resume on his request, I got a Skype interview the same week with a Game Designer, a Programmer and a Producer. We spoke, in English and Japanese, about my past experiences and aspirations. One week later, I got a second interview, with the manager himself. The interview went smoothly, and we talked about the studio and its projects. However, I was not offered a position at this time because of my lack of ability in Japanese (JLPT 3 minimum), without excluding any future opportunity if I improve this weakness.

Interview Questions

  • Why do you want to work in Japan?
  • What appeals to you in game design?
